Portraiture is one of the most challenging yet rewarding areas of photography. This workshop will teach you how to take timeless portraits and family photographs by using not only the right techniques and equipment but also by helping you to convey your subjects’ unique character within the photograph.

Portrait photography does not always need expensive lighting and a professional studio; with a little planning, any room can be converted into a temporary studio. In this small and hands-on class, we will cover many topics including choice of lens, metering and exposure, light (the use of both available and artificial), flash, composition, how to relax a subject and how to work with children (including avoiding the silly grins!).

During this workshop we will cover:

·       Tips for before you begin
·       Basic equipment
·       Choice of lens and focal length
·       Light metering
·       Choosing a background
·       Understanding lighting (using available and/or artificial light)
·       Using in-built flash
·       Using a separate flash (how to choose a flash)
·       Composing a portrait
·       Understanding posing
·       Techniques to help the subject relax
·       Working with children (how to avoid those silly grins!)
